![]() | Serving Hearts is led by Waldo and Vanessa Swiegelaar. Towards the end of 2010 we started making soup and driving around the Bellville area, with our son Zander, to distribute it to the hungry and destitute. Zander was an extremely sick little boy, but the experience touched him so much that he constantly wanted to do it again. He never did, as he spent most of his time in hospital, and passed away on 25 December 2010. We decided to continue this work as a tribute to Zander’s brave soul and giving heart. We now do these soup runs once or twice a month, as finances allow, and managed to get our friends and family to donate unused clothes and blankets to hand out. |
We are Christian based and God centred. We believe and trust that this is what God is asking of us. We are also being obedient to our callings as servants and evangelists. People get so motivated to do mission/volunteer work in far away countries or neighbouring towns and areas, which is wonderful, but there is such a huge need right here where we live. We are deeply touched to see the desperation and hopelessness as more and more people become destitute and lose everything. Sometimes through the choices they made and sometimes due to the devil's doing. Our aim is to see to their immediate needs like food, clothes, hygiene and shelter, and then restore their hearts to God. To get them to see the hope and future He has for them. We have also had a vision of eventually getting a smallholding where we can take in destitute people and feed and clothe them and teach them about God. We want to train them in valuable skills so they can begin to work either for themselves or another business, and then testify to all the good that God has done to change their lives. We look forward to serving hearts and most importantly serving God! Website: http://www.servinghearts.co.za/ | |
